6 Ways To Get Quality Sleep

Sleep plays an important part in your health and well-being. Getting enough quality sleep at night can affect your mental and physical health.

If you find yourself tossing and turning at night you may want to try some or all of the following 6 Ways to Get Quality Sleep.

6 Ways To Get Quality Sleep1) Control The Temperature

Your bedroom should be cool to give you the best quality sleep at night.  If it is too hot you will find yourself tossing and turning. On the flipside if your room is to cold you will end up shivering all night. To make sure to get the quality sleep you are looking for, keep the temperature between 60-67 degrees.

2) Keep It Dark

You get better quality sleep if your bedroom is free from any light.  If your room isn’t completely dark, you can try using blackout curtains or a sleep mask to sleep in.  Some people cannot sleep with anything on their face, so blackout curtains are the way to go. However, if you can use a sleep mask I recommend the one I use.  You can check it out here.  I like it because it is comfortable and adjusts easily to fit my head.

3) Use Aromatherapy

Did you know that there are essential oil scents that can actually improve your quality of sleep?  It is important to note candles do NOT have the same effect as essential oils. Some of the scents that promote relaxation are lavender, cedarwood, and ylang ylang.  My preferred method is to use a diffuser to distribute the oils about 30 minutes before bed. You can check out my favorite brand of essential oils here.  I like the pure essential oils that are not watered down and are in their rawest form.  WARNING – Do NOT apply pure essential oils directly to your skin. This will cause your skin to burn!

A bath can be one of the most relaxing things you can do before bed. Plus, its free and easy!  When you soak in a hot bath your temperature rises and the rapid cool-down period when you get out immediately relaxes you. Plus, for an added bonus add some essential oils to relax you and your muscles.

6 Ways To Get Quality Sleep5) Make Your Bed As Comfortable As Possible

I like to think of my bed as a floating cloud of comfort.  In order to do this, make sure your mattress, pillows, blankets and sheets are as comfortable as possible. I recommend using soft sheets (Bamboo or Prima Cotton), Memory Foam Bed or topper (topper is cheaper), memory foam pillows and comforters that are hypoallergenic.  The cost of getting these quality products can be expensive, but if you watch for sales and coupons you can get a great product at sometimes half the regular price.  I just got a 600 thread-count prima cotton sheet set at Bed Bath and Beyond (used a 20% off coupon and they were on sale) for less than $100!  At the very least make sure to replace your mattress every 9-10 years (unless otherwise stated) and your pillows every few years to get the quality sleep you crave.

If you have major problems falling asleep at night I highly recommend melatonin pills. While I am not a fan of medicine, (I prefer more natural solutions when possible) I so love this natural sleeping aid. Melatonin pills are a natural supplement to help relax your mind and promote restful sleep. If I am excited or nervous about the next day’s events and can’t get my brain to shut off, I use a Natural Sleeping Aid called Restful Sleep. All melatonin pills will work the same way, but I prefer the one that I use because of the other ingredients in it which all promote muscle relation.  The particular product I use is not available until 2018 but if you would like to get on the waiting list click here.
