How to Handle Life’s Roadblocks

How to Handle Life’s Roadblocks

You are just traveling down the road of life, everything is great and then there it is…a roadblock.

When this happens in life we all have 2 choices; work to clear the roadblock or pave a new path.

Whatever choice you make you have to remember that bad times don’t last forever.

No matter what you run into you use these 3 steps can help you through it.

Step One: Stay Positive

How to Handle Life’s RoadblocksStaying positive even when things are not going the way you want them to is very hard but so very important.

The last thing you need on top of a problem is negativity.

This will only bring you further down and keep you from moving forward.

A great way to stay positive is to start a gratitude journal.

When you are grateful for the things you have it helps you stay positive and will, over time, begin to change your life.

Also, try making a list of things you like to do and do 1 thing every day that makes you happy.

Some of my favorite things are taking a bubble bath, talking to a good friend, painting my nails a hot color, eating pizza in my PJ’s, watching a funny movie, and playing with my cats.

Your list doesn’t have to be full of big things even though my list does include a few big things like traveling or having a spa day.

Whether big or small it’s important to take time to do something that makes you happy every day.

This will help to pull you into a more positive place.

I mean, how long do you want to stay in your PJ’s eating Oreos with your box of Kleenex?

It’s never going to be easy but if you take small steps every day you will start to move into a more positive place.

Step Two: Come Up With A Plan

How to Handle Life’s RoadblocksStart by identifying the main issue.

Next, make a list of ways you can work through your problems.

If your roadblock or problem is so big you’re not sure what to do don’t be afraid to ask for help.

I find comfort in talking to a trusted friend or family member.

If your problems are really big you might want to talk to a therapist or seek professional help.

There is no shame in getting help when you need it.

We work so hard a physical health, why not put the same effort into our mental health.

Talk about it, cry about it, eat ice cream, go see a therapist, do what you got to do and then decide to start moving forward.

Step Three: Learn The Lesson The 1st Time

How to Handle Life’s RoadblocksEveryone has their fair share of roadblocks.

I try to look at roadblocks as learning experiences.

Every roadblock I have experienced has ultimately taught me a lesson and has helped me become a better person.

I have learned things like what I like, don’t like, what I need or how I feel just to give a few examples.

Don’t be surprised if you can’t view it as a learning experience until you are safe on the other side of the roadblock.
